Diana and Johnny had been happily married for 11 years. They enjoyed their blissful marriage and progressive career. Having a lovely house of their own and a pair of cute poodle that running around the house, what else can they asked for. But there was something missing in their 11 years of marriage. A BABY!
The couple googled a lot on fertility issues with no clue they could get on why they were not conceiving. Nothing seems wrong.
Diana who was then 35 and Johnny – 40, finally decided to see a fertility consultant to identify where the problems could be. They agreed that they just had to face it bravely this time and determined to overcome whatever that might come instead of choosing to avoid it just like the past.
It was a breeze appointment for the couple as they were not restrained by a particular timing of the period. It was a Saturday morning and both of them were not working.
Once they arrived at the IVF clinic, they did a simple registration, a comprehensive medical history taking, a semen analysis for Johnny which he was required to masturbate and produce the semen sample for analysis were done and off they went into the doctor’s room for consultation. A transvaginal scan was performed gently yet professionally by the doctor after some questions.
Within the same day, the report is out:
- Johnny’s semen analysis result turned out to be ideally good as it had healthy quantity and sufficient parameter of quality, but not so for Diana.
- Her transvaginal scan suggested mild endometriosis with adhesions, just like an unswept house that was dirty and made your foot uncomfortable when stepping on it. There were also some polyps and cysts in various sizes. Biggest polyp was measured at 1cm and it sat nicely in a position that according the doctor, could be the one hindering the implantation of embryos.
- The doctor suggested to have it removed surgically and they could try to conceive naturally after that.
However, both were not convinced, and they wanted to give them some timeline as they were not that young anymore. So they got the answer to try for 6 months and it was not successful, they could consider IUI or, alternative IVF for a more advanced, precise and higher in success rates.
3 months later things went on uneventful. Every urine pregnancy test ended up with disappointment. Diana and Johnny thus agreed, time to take a leap of faith with serious some fertility treatments.
The couple saw the promotion on double deal IUI that cost only RM 2988 (~ USD 750) for 2 cycles so they decided to give IUI a try!
